What is recycled leather?

60-70% of leather scraps are intended to be thrown away, Maison Origin takes these scraps and adds Latex to them to create their amazing desk products.

They obtain a very soft raw material, but not resistant enough for daily use. Then add a fine water-based varnish is added to bring out the colour and details of the material and protect from scratches and stains.

This allows Maison Origin to have a product that has the characteristics of leather (smell, softness, patina) while being more rigid thanks to latex (products soften over time but not as much as leather, which increases their durability).

Why did you choose to recycle leather?

The leather industry produces 800,000 tons of waste each year, and this waste is particularly harmful to the soil.

Leather can be treated before it can be used, and these treatments are most often very polluting.

And vegan leather, isn't it better?

A vegan leather product is usually made from agricultural waste and biomaterials. This is a great alternative to leather but doesn't address the issue of leather tanneries discarding their leather scraps. 

By recycling leather that is intended to be thrown away, Maison Origin do not participate in animal suffering but do help in the prevention of needless waste, and in polluting the soil.
