Five reasons to buy a Monitor Bracket (and a warning!)

This Spotlight post is all about monitor mounts. So if you're unsure whether you need one or even what they do, read on for more!
Here's five reasons you'll want to take a look at a Monitor Mount for your next home office purchase:

  1. Saves Desk Space: By attaching a monitor bracket to your desk or wall, you can free up valuable desk space. The monitor will be elevated and won't take up any surface area, giving you more room to work and reducing clutter. (The K&M Dual monitor mount below holds up to two 32" mounts and up to 8kg)

  2. Improves Ergonomics: When using a monitor bracket, you can adjust the height and angle of your screen to a comfortable position. This helps to reduce eye strain, neck pain, and backaches that can be caused by poor posture while working for extended periods.

  3. Increases Productivity: With a monitor bracket, you can position your screen at the optimal height and angle for your comfort, which helps to increase your focus and concentration on your work. This ultimately leads to increased productivity.

  4. Enhances Visual Experience: A monitor bracket allows you to tilt, swivel, and rotate your screen for the best possible viewing experience. This is especially useful for people who need to work with large monitors or multiple screens. (check the picture below to see a minimalist setup using a monitor mount)

  5. Improves Aesthetics: A monitor bracket can also enhance the appearance of your workspace. With a sleek, modern design, it can make your workspace look more professional and organised

A Word of Warning

Well two warnings actually:

  1. Check your monitor has a VESA mount: You've probably seen them when hanging your TV on the wall, they come in one shape but plenty of different sizes, and some monitors just don't come with them at all. Always double check compatibility before purchasing.

  2. We're not in the business of knocking other brands, but as the old saying goes 'you get what you pay for'. This is especially true when purchasing a desk to clamp your monitors on to, and while Ikea does some wonderful products please, please beware of their (and other brand's) Particleboard desks, these products often have a wooden frame with a 'honeycomb paper filling' in the centre (see below).

Now, these desks offer wonderful value for money and often look great too. But you wouldn't want to clamp a monitor to it. You may be OK with a smaller monitor but even then, if you were to extend the monitor towards your face you will be putting a lot of strain on that honeycomb paper.

If you've already invested in a particleboard desk then I'd recommend grabbing a wall mount monitor bracket or even a desk shelf for that extra peace of mind.

Overall, a monitor bracket can be a valuable investment for anyone who wants to improve their workspace ergonomics, increase productivity, enhance their visual experience, and make their workspace look more professional.
